Computing

We provide a comprehensive and inclusive computing education that prepares children for the rapidly evolving technological landscape. Our aim is to develop:
Computational thinking
Problem-solving abilities
Digital literacy
📚 Three Key Areas
1. Computer Science Children gain a deep understanding of algorithms, coding, and logical reasoning. They learn to create, debug, and modify simple programs, nurturing their computational thinking skills.
2. Information Technology Pupils explore digital tools and platforms, learning how to use technology effectively for communication, research, and data handling. They develop skills in data representation, online safety, and cybersecurity, equipping them to navigate the digital world responsibly.
3. Digital Literacy We encourage a critical understanding of technology’s impact on society. Children explore online etiquette, digital footprints, and the ethical implications of technology use. They are empowered to make informed decisions, respect privacy, and contribute positively to the digital community.
🎮 How We Teach
Through engaging and age-appropriate activities — including coding projects, interactive games, and collaborative tasks — our curriculum encourages teamwork, creativity, and resilience.
📅 Weekly Lessons
Children in all classes receive a dedicated computing lesson each week. As they progress through the school, their confidence and independence with technology grow, preparing them for life beyond the classroom.

Computing art work using pointillism!
In Computing this half-term it is linked to our theme 'Every Picture tells a story!'. We have been using the tool '2Paint a Picture' to create our very own masterpieces.
This session was all about pattern work, and we looked at the artists Orla Kiely and William Morris.
Take a look at our amazing designs!
In computing, Blencathra Class have been using the music tool 2Sequence and made some amazing compositions. We have now moved on to Creating pictograms using the 2Count tool on Purple Mash. The children were able to talk about the difference collecting data the old fashioned way and using computing to collect data. Great work Class 1!
2Count - Creating pictograms
Class 3 did brilliantly in their coding lessons creating their own games. They coded various games, with moving characters, sound effects, creating timers and a running scores!

Codebugs
Skiddaw children have been using codebugs! Creating their own coding programmes to display their own LED light up messages!
Making Music in Computing!
This week in Computing, KS1 have been using the tool 2Sequence on Purple Mash. The challenge was to make music changing bpm, instruments and volume. The children loved it. Here are some screenshot videos of some music made.
