Our Curriculum

Curriculum Intent
At Penruddock Primary School, our curriculum is designed to nurture curious, confident and compassionate learners who embody our school values of Friendship, Trust, Respect, Perseverance, Compassion and Community.
Through rich, inclusive and well-sequenced learning experiences, we aim to ensure that every child develops the knowledge, skills and character they need to flourish academically, socially and personally — preparing them to make a positive difference in the world around them.
Our curriculum reflects our rural community and celebrates our local context while broadening children’s horizons through diverse experiences that inspire ambition, empathy and a love of learning.
Curriculum Implementation
Our curriculum is personalised to meet the needs of all our children within our unique school setting. It follows the National Curriculum for all subjects and is enriched through carefully planned cross-curricular topics and learning themes that make learning purposeful, creative and connected.
As a small school with mixed-age classes, we operate a two-year rolling programme to ensure that knowledge and skills are taught progressively and revisited regularly. This approach supports children in building strong foundations and developing a deep understanding over time.
Learning is sequenced carefully across each subject to ensure that:
- Children build on prior knowledge and make meaningful connections between subjects.
- Skills and knowledge progress in depth and complexity as children move through school.
- Teachers plan engaging and challenging lessons that meet the needs of all learners.
- Assessment is used effectively to inform next steps and ensure everyone achieves their best.
Curriculum Impact
We measure the impact of our curriculum through the progress, confidence and enthusiasm of our learners. Pupils at Penruddock Primary School:
- Achieve well across all subjects and make strong progress from their individual starting points.
- Demonstrate curiosity, independence and resilience in their learning.
- Show pride in their work and articulate their learning clearly and confidently.
- Apply their knowledge and skills in a range of contexts, showing understanding beyond the classroom.
- Develop into kind, thoughtful and responsible members of our community who live out our school values every day.
Our commitment to regular reflection, review and improvement ensures that our curriculum continues to evolve and meet the needs of all our children.
